Update to my previous. When I open it as Administrator, or from within the Adminsitrator user, the trial period shows up and the program opens and I've entered a couple of events to test it. But I cannot acces the program or the file from the non-Administrator user, which is where I do all my work and where I needto have the timeline reside.
Hi, Sorry to hear that the the trial isn't working properly for you. This hasn't been reported to us before, I have emailed the company that deals with our licensing system (Paddle) about the issue and will let you know when I hear back from them. The only thing I can suggest in the meantime is to try it out in Administrator mode, or on another computer if you have access to it, as you can transfer the timeline file back to where you need it if we resolve the problem, or you decide to buy the software. Jess
Thanks. Jess, I'll try it out on a laptop. By keeping it open next to my desktop that should make it easier to coordinate with my Scrivener file on the desktop than switching back and forth between users. Now should I download and install a brand new trial to the laptop? Or can I/should I somehow transfer the program from the administrator user on the desktop? And I'm assuming that if I decide to buy, the transfer of the file I've created on the laptop will be simple. Rafe
Hi Rafe, You should download a new version of the trial onto your laptop. If you do decide to buy, your timeline file can just be copied from your laptop to your computer. If you decided to test Scrivener syncing on your laptop, you would also need to copy the Scrivener file to your computer from your laptop, and same with any external files you added to the timeline. However all of them should just be a simple file transfer between computers, but if you do decide to buy and need help with it, let me know. Jess
Hi Jess, I;ve decided to buy the software. I think the group and filter functions will allow me to sync it usfully even to my chronologically distorted narrative. And if not, it will still be useful as a stand-alone reference. Now because of the glitch on my desktop version I think I should buy the license and install it on the laptop. where the trial is running nicely, And then remove the software completely from the desktop and download and install a new version there dirctly with my license. Is that the besst way to go? Rafe
Hi Rafe, You should be able to just activate your license on your desktop version. When the popup window comes up saying that you have 0 days of the trial left, there should be an option to activate your license. I would enter your license code here, and see if it activates. If this fails, then you can try deleting your current version and reinstalling it. Let us know if you have any trouble. The company that deals with our licensing has gotten back to me saying that they will look into the problem, but we don't have a solution yet. Jess
Hi Rafe, I just wanted to check that since you bought a license everything is working well for you on your computer? Paddle got back to me about the problem you were having with the trial and they said they couldn't reproduce the problem or find any reason for it not to work. They asked if you had any more details, and had some suggestions about things to try to fix it, however if you have a working version now, it probably wouldn't be good to try playing around with your computer settings/disk. However, I just wanted to check that the licensed version is working fine for you first. Jess
Hi Jess, Thanks for following up and for the Paddle report. I've had no more problems on the trial period issue (although I've had some other newbie questions addressed by you and others on another thread). I entered my license on that "0 days" panel and the program seems to be working properly since then. Interestingly, if I open the program on my administrative user, where I don't intend to use it, that original trial period that did open there is still running. Just now it showed 11 days left in the trial period. I guess the way to handle it is to just let it expire, and to delete the two rudimentary timelines that seem to belong to it. Rafe
Hi, I'm in the same boat. I just downloaded the version for mac and when I opened it I got the "0 days left in this trial period" notice. I completed Nanowrimo this yr and wanted to check out before purchasing. Not sure if I should have started a new thread since this was here... Thanks in advance.
Hi, Have you ever downloaded the program on this computer before? If you had downloaded it once before, and then uninstalled it, it will still register those days as a trial if you reinstall it. You can also try to download it to trial it on a different computer before you buy if you have access to one. If you don't believe you have ever run it before on your computer, and you don't have access to another one, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will try to get to the bottom of the issue. Jess
Hi Jess, Yes I did download it a couple (?) years ago but don't remember actually using it for much of anything. Alas, I don't have another computer to trial it on. Is there anything that can be done? Thanks again.
Hi, Unfortunately we don't have any way of resetting the trial once it has expired, so there isn't anything else we can do to give you access to the trial on that particular computer. Jess
