Exporting, Printing, and Sharing
Export a Spreadsheet (CSV)
CSV files are plain-text files that store data in a table format. They can be opened or imported into most spreadsheet apps, including Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets.
Export Your Entire File as a CSV
To export all items in your timeline as a CSV or TSV file:
- Go to File → Export → Export File as CSV/TSV
- Choose whether to use comma or tab delimiters
- Optionally exclude specific item types from the export
This exports:
- All items of all included item types
- All available fields for those items
Export a Specific Spreadsheet View
If you only want to export what’s currently visible in a Spreadsheet view:
- Select the Spreadsheet view tab you want to export
- Click Export → Spreadsheet in the view header
This exports only the rows and columns shown in that view.
Export an Image or PDF
You can export any view as an image or PDF.
- Select the tab for the view you want to export
- Click Export → Image in the view header
- Choose your preferred format (such as PNG, PDF, or JPEG)
The export reflects the current view settings, including filters, grouping, and zoom level.
Export a Markdown or Word Document
In these views, you can export the view’s content as a text document:
- Timeline view
- Narrative view
- List view
To export a Markdown or Word document:
- Select the tab for the view you want to export
- Click Export → Markdown or Export → Word in the view header
This creates a text version of the view’s content, for editing or reviewing outside Aeon Timeline.
Printing
When you print a view:
- Only the active view is printed.
- The printout reflects the current filters, grouping, and visibility settings.
- If you’re using split views, only the focused pane is printed.
To print a view:
- Select the tab with the view you want to print.
- Click Export → Print in the view header.
- Optionally adjust the page size and scaling before printing.
Create and Reuse Custom Templates
Templates let you reuse a customized setup across multiple timeline files.
Save a custom template
If you’ve customized your timeline — for example by setting up a custom calendar, item types, relationships, or properties — you can save that setup as a template.
Saving a template stores everything configured in the Settings window, including:
- Calendar settings
- Item types
- Custom relationship types
- Custom properties
- Colors
To do this:
- Choose File → Save as Template.
- Give the template a name and choose an icon.
- Select the template category it should appear in.
- Choose whether to include parts of your timeline’s data, such as:
- Events or items
- Relationships between items
- Calendar markers
Use a custom template
Saved templates appear in the template selection screen when you create a new timeline file.
Selecting a template lets you start a new project with your preferred structure already in place.
