The Mindmap View

Use the Mindmap view when you want to focus on a chosen set of related events or items.

Instead of showing all items in your timeline, the Mindmap view lets you pick just the items you care about and arrange them visually.

This is useful for family trees, relationship maps, or other connected graphs or diagrams.

Customize Content

You can choose what details are shown for each event or item.

Customize Card Details

  1. Open the Content panel in the view header
  2. Under Fields, click fields to show or hide them
  3. Optionally, open the Card Options section for more display options.

Customize Connecting Lines

The Mindmap view shows relationships between events and items as connecting lines. If you are using custom relationships, you can choose whether their labels are shown or not.

  1. Open the Content panel in the view header.
  2. Click Card Options.
  3. Enable or disable Show custom relationship labels on connecting lines.

You can also change the visual of those lines.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select the Relationship Types tab.
  3. Select a custom relationship from the list on the left.
  4. Under the View Display section, choose a line style and color.

Add Items and Relationships

You can add both new or existing event items—and create relationships between them—directly in the Mindmap view.

Add a new Event or Item

  1. Double-click on an empty space in the Mindmap view.
  2. Choose the item type you want to create.
  3. Type a label and press Enter.

Add Existing Events or Items

  1. Open the item type sidebar panel for the event or item you want to add.
  2. Find the item in the list.
  3. Drag it into the Mindmap view.

Tip: You can add multiple existing items at once by selecting more than one item before dragging them into the Mindmap view. To select multiple items:

  • Hold Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and click items one by one, or
  • Hold Shift and click two items to select the range between them.

Note for iOS: Long-press to enter Edit mode before dragging events and items. While in edit mode, tap the items you want to select.

Add a Relationship

  1. Show the connector icon for one of the events or items you want to connect:
    • Mac or Windows: Hover over the item to show the icon.
    • iOS: Tap the item once to show the icon.
  2. Drag the connecting line to the other item you want to connect.
  3. If only one relationship type is available, it’s created automatically.
If multiple relationship types are available, a menu appears. Choose the relationship you want to create.

Remove Items from the Mindmap

You can remove an event or item from the Mindmap view without deleting it from your project.

To remove an item from the view only:

  1. Select the event or item.
  2. In the top app menu, choose Item → Remove from View.

The item is removed from the Mindmap view but remains available elsewhere in your timeline file.

Note: Deleting an event or item from the bottom of the inspector removes it entirely from your file, including all views—not just the Mindmap.
